Product Details

Are your tiny plants real?

Yes, these are real, live plants! They grow just like any other succulent.

Do the plants actually grow?

Yes, they grow slowly due to the tiny pots, similar to bonsai.

How long do they live?

With proper care, these tiny plants can live as long as any other succulent. Some of our original plants have been thriving in their tiny pots for over a year. Once repotted, they can grow into full-sized succulents.

What is an adoption kit?

When you adopt a plant, you’ll receive a certificate of adoption and everything you need to take care of your little one. The kit encourages you to name, feed, and care for your tiny plant!

How do you get your plants to be so small?

We grow them! The small pots limit the amount of nutrients the plants get, which slows their growth and keeps them tiny.

Where do you get your pots?

Our tiny team handcrafts every single little pot ourselves!

Where do you get your plant stands?

We design and manufacture them in San Diego.

Can I repot the plants?

Absolutely! Repotting encourages faster growth into a regular-sized cactus. Just make sure your tiny cactus has developed roots before transferring it to a larger pot.

Do sold-out plants ever become available for adoption again?

We handcraft each batch of tiny plant babies with love, giving them their own little quirks and personality. Once they’ve all been adopted, we usually move on to new designs.

That said, if there’s a lot of interest through the “Notify Me” button, we may bring back a limited batch!

You can also visit us in person when we pop up at the Little Italy Mercato in San Diego — sometimes past favorites make a surprise appearance there.

Is the thimble cactus the only plant available?

We offer thimble cactus for online adoption because they are hardy enough to travel safely.

Some of our other tiny plants are too delicate to ship, but you can adopt them when we pop up at the Little Italy Mercato in San Diego.

You will receive automated confirmation emails to the address provided at checkout. Please check your spam folder, as our emails may have ended up there. To ensure future communications reach your inbox, kindly mark our emails as 'Not Spam'.

How long can I leave my package outside before it should be retrieved?

Your package should be retrieved as soon as possible upon delivery. We recommend bringing it indoors on the day it arrives, especially in regions with extreme weather conditions.

Please monitor your shipping confirmation email for updates on delivery status; this email may occasionally be filtered into your Spam folder.

How long can I leave my tiny plant in its original adoption box?

Online customers: If you adopted a thimble cactus, it can remain in its adoption box for up to two weeks without light or water and will be perfectly fine during that time. Please note that this applies only when the delivery box is promptly retrieved and brought into a temperature-controlled environment to avoid exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions.

Pop-up Market customers: All other plants will require more immediate care upon arrival. If you're planning to gift your tiny plant, consider removing it from the adoption box to provide water and light until you're ready to give it away.

Are your tiny plant kits safe for kids?

While these kits are cute and fun, they’re designed for display and gentle care — not play. Some parts are small, delicate, or pointy. They may be suitable for ages 7+ or with adult supervision.

⚠️Not recommended for any children under 3 due to choking hazards.

Are your tiny plant kits safe for pets?

While our kits are meant for humans to enjoy, we know pets can be curious. Some plants and materials may be harmful if chewed or ingested, so we recommend keeping your tiny plants out of reach of pets — just to be safe.

Plant Care

Can they survive without much sunlight?

Yes, they’re adaptable to low-light environments, like offices with artificial light. However, for the best growth, place them in bright, indirect sunlight. A window sill with indirect light is a foolproof spot for most plants in our collection.

I just received my tiny plant, when should I water it?

If you adopted a thimble cactus, you can wait up to 2 weeks before you need to water it!

For all other plants, please water them as soon as you receive them.

How much water does my plant need?

If you adopted a thimble cactus, it requires just a few drops of water every two weeks.

For all other plants, water them once a week on average. Water generously to ensure the entire soil is moist. Keep in mind, these tiny plants live in a very tiny amount of soil, so they dry out much faster than regular-sized potted plants. For more details, please refer to our Care Instructions for more details.

How long will it take my cactus to root?

Please be patient with your tiny new friend. Thimble cacti are incredibly hardy and can go quite a while without roots—especially when grown indoors. Even under ideal conditions (consistent warmth, low humidity, and bright light), it can take 4 to 8 weeks for roots to develop.

If your home has air conditioning or fluctuating temperature, humidity, or lighting, rooting may take even longer. Don’t worry—your cactus is built for it. It just means your home is way too comfortable, and your tiny cactus feels no urgency to grow roots.

In the meantime, follow the Care Guide, and it should settle in beautifully. And whatever you do, do not overwater—these little guys consider that their worst nightmare.

Do I need to prune my plant?

Not all plants need pruning. If you have a leafy plant, remove any dead or yellowing leaves to keep it healthy. If it grows too tall, a light trim can help it branch out beautifully.

Why won't my cactus stay in place?

While it’s normal for thimble cacti to be a bit loose before rooting, they should not fall out just from sitting in place.

Tips:

  • Use only as much soil as needed—extra is included in case it is needed later.
  • Avoid packing the soil down, and do not add any water prior to placing the cactus in the pot.
  • For larger cacti, fill the white pot no more than halfway—these cacti need very little soil.
